Who is Janet Joan?

I’ve been a practising interior designer since, 2005 and have been lucky enough to hone my skills and experience working for design studios and large-scale decor and design companies servicing both the South African and overseas markets (have a look at some of my work here). I established Janet Joan Interior Design in 2017.

My name is Janet Kruger. As a kid, I was forever playing with colouring pencils, drawing, or dressing up the family dogs (and my younger sister), decorating school books, creating pots at ceramics classes (some of which still grace the house where I grew up). Remember tie-dye T-shirts? Yes, those too. I took it one step further and did fabric art right through to matric.

Small wonder then that in 2000 I realised I wanted to pursue a creative career, so I enrolled at the BHC School of Design for an internationally recognised three-year Interior Design Diploma course. I didn’t realise at the time that BHC is recognised as one of the leading design schools in South Africa. I absolutely loved those three years and my passion for interior design intensified when I was a national finalist in a bedroom-design competition run by Elle Decoration.

My studies provided me with a thorough grounding in creative skills, as well as in the all-important technical and functional elements of design: from drawing plans through to 3D perspective drawings. The three years paid off when I graduated with distinction.

So what sets me apart? It’s more than creativity – it is the ability to bring to bear these strong technical skills in order to realise my creative vision in my interior design projects.
